Build a Popsicle Stick House D.I.Y.

This took place February 10 run by Nancy Floyd. Floyd is apart of the faculty at GSU's School of Art and Design in the photography program. At this event, students learned how to use wood glue and hot glue guns to construct houses and other designs out of popsicle sticks. Let's just say it's a step up from what you did in kindergarten. Enjoy these candid photos from our super talented students!

The Great Art Giveaway

Ruth Stanford's Installation Sculpture class stages a little public intervention in the spirit of "Free Because It's Yours". Instead of hitting the dumpster abandoned art from GSU lockers finds new homes.  As Ruth says "it's a great example of you never know what's going to happen".

More Strings

Participating in the DIY art Tuesdays creates more than art, - it creates community. I loved the string project in Cage Space. It was challenging to define an area of the work and become a part of it, and eventually you begin to depend on the work and input from others to enhance your own participation. Very stimulating and thought provoking. I also enjoyed learning to knit at the GSU Gallery. This is something I would never have thought of. But it just goes to show that you never know what you really enjoy unless you try. On the other hand, though I really wanted to take part in the wax carving / etching for the cast piece, - I found that the tools were hard to manipulate and the situation of the work (on its side and low to the ground) made it hard to really enjoy. As a whole, the DIY is well worth participating for everyone and if you can take part, you should.

DIY Tuesdays - String Theory

I thought the "String Theory" D.I.Y. Tuesday event that took place on 1/13/09 was really interesting. Paul and Angus, the event's creators were fun to speak with and the cage space looked great by the time it became filled with all the cris-crossing lines of twine.
The students certainly seemed to enjoy themselves during their time outside the classroom and it was nice to see them interact and cooperate together to complete their designs. Awesome way to start of the D.I.Y. events. Everyone should definitely plan to come out to the rest of the Tuesday festivities.
